Extended XPages Extension Library Demo Database (a.k.a node-demo.nsf)

By Paul Withers | 4/18/19 1:39 AM | App Dev - XPages | Added by John Oldenburger

With the App Dev Pack available on Windows and IAM server out of beta, HCL and IBM have done the work to go beyond the anonymous access to Domino data from Node.js. And with Engage around the corner, no doubt all speakers are thinking about demos, if they haven’t started doing them already.

The previous events have been a blast and the feedback to IBM on the future of the product has already been amazing. But we need more, we need more voices, more feedback, more direction and bright new ideas. And we need them from you!!

I Don’t Care About Domino

By Hogne B. Pettersen | 4/17/19 2:54 AM | App Dev - Web | Added by Roberto Boccadoro

That’s what my, and I guess most of your customers’ end users say as well. They only care about the apps and solutions they have to work with. What’s under the hood is of no interest to them. So allow me to present two Domino based solutions that does just that.

Weekend Project "Domino on Docker Update"

By Daniel Nashed | 4/15/19 4:01 AM | Infrastructure - Notes / Domino | Added by Roberto Boccadoro

There are a couple of updates pending for the offical IBM Docker project --> https://github.com/IBM/domino-docker Support for 10.0.1 FP1 Support for Domino Community Edition Preparation for supporting add-on products like "Traveler", "VOP", "AppDevPack" and later maybe "Sametime" Making software downloads more reliable and provide better error checking Install Log checking for installed software Official implementation of the Domino on Dock management script. The main challenge is proper version support without having multiple dockerfiles. So I am working on a way to have the version tags and the installation files outside the dockerfile. Lables and variables can be passed to the docker build command and overrwrite default settings.

Quick Tip: Installing the IBM ODBC Driver for Notes Domino 9.0

By John Oldenburger | 4/12/19 8:55 AM | Infrastructure - Notes / Domino | Added by Roberto Boccadoro

We have recently installed a new Domino 64 Bit server. To set up a number of necessary connections with, among others, Exact we had to install the ODBC Driver for Notes Domino 9.0 on this new Domino server. We encountered a problem with this because we had skipped an important step after installing the driver, adjusting the system variables. A necessary requirement for a correct working of the ODBC driver is that the IBM Notes 9 installation path must be in the OS path environment variable! If the Windows OS Path variable does not contain the Notes installation path the ODBC driver will not work. In order not to forget this at a subsequent installation below the necessary steps for correct installation of the ODBC driver for Notes Domino 9.0. The following is based on an installation on a Windows 2016 server

Domino 10.0.1 FP1 SAML, iNotes, Traveler, ID-Vault working together

By Daniel Nashed | 4/9/19 9:51 AM | Infrastructure - Notes / Domino | Added by John Oldenburger

There is an issue in Domino 9.0.1 FP10 and earlier which Milan Matejic posted about and there is also an official technote related to it. When I read the post I was sort of confused because there are also changes in Domino 10.0.1 FP1 which sound very similar. I had a pending post for FP1 for more detailed information for the notes.ini parameters added.

Traveler server not connecting to Microsoft SQL Server using only TLS 1.2

By Daniel Nashed | 4/9/19 9:50 AM | Infrastructure - Notes / Domino | Added by John Oldenburger

There is a new issue that Detlev Pöttgen has already reported in detail about on his blog including the work-around. Current MS SQL Servers do only support TLS 1.2 and the JDBC Driver used on the Traveler Server does not open a TLS 1.2 session by default. This impacts Traveler configuration with the travelerutil and also operating your server -- if the SQL server is updated to a version that supports TLS 1.2 only!

By Gabriella Davis | 4/5/19 10:55 AM | Infrastructure - Notes / Domino | Added by Matteo Bisi

A customer reported this week that their Macs were suddenly all crashing when trying to send mail , reply or forward.  Which is odd.. until I found this technote with the following statement updated on April  1st As of April 1, 2019, IBM does not recommend upgrading to 10.14.4 for customers running pre-Notes 10.0.1 releases…

HCL has impressed me!

By Karl-Henry Martinsson | 4/5/19 2:50 AM | Infrastructure - Notes / Domino | Added by Roberto Boccadoro

It has now been just over four months since it was announced that HCL would purchase the IP (intellectual property) of Notes, Domino, Sametime, Connections, Verse, Traveler, and several other products from IBM. When the announcement was made in 2017 that HCL would take over development and support of Notes and Domino, many IBM:ers with long experience of developing the products moved over to HCL. I talked to several of them back then, and also at the Factory Tour in July 2018. The excitement was amazing to see, it took me back to the days of Lotusphere in the early 2000’s. They were all very excited about the new opportunity to create new functions and expand/modernize the products. Very quickly the development of Domino 10 took off.

Domino Backup Feedback, Requirements and my new project

By Daniel Nashed | 4/5/19 2:48 AM | Infrastructure - Notes / Domino | Added by Roberto Boccadoro

As a consultant I see many Domino environments every year and the topic "Domino Backup" is coming up regularly. Today there are still Domino servers not being backuped with Domino supported backup applications! And I even see servers without Domino transaction logging enabled!! It's really a best practice and requirement to enable transaction logging for any type of Domino server for data consistency and concurrent access to databases -- even you are not leveraging point in time recovery and incremental backup when transaction logging is configured in archive style mode!

Language Packs, Verse and A New App Dev Pack, Someone Has Had A Busy Week.

By Gabriella Davis | 4/5/19 2:46 AM | Infrastructure - Notes / Domino | Added by Roberto Boccadoro

This week the G1 language packs for Notes 10.0.1 that include French, German, Japanese, Italian, Brazilian, Chinese and Korean were made available. If you are now having a bit of deja vu that’s because these language packs were already released once and very quickly withdrawn when it was discovered there were considerable problems in the way the translations had been done. To their credit HCL withdrew the products almost immediately when they were told of the issues and have been working to redo and re-release them all.

HCL releases 10.0.1 FP1 and AppDev Pack 1.0.1

By Daniel Nashed | 4/1/19 3:25 AM | Infrastructure - Notes / Domino | Added by Matteo Bisi

Just in time before of Q1 HCL releases the following two updates: 1. Notes/Domino 10.0.1 FP1 This is a FixPack not a FeaturePack. In contrast to 9.0.1 with the FeaturePacks IBM/HCL went back to a full release cycle which makes a lot of sense. We will see an new version every year with quaterly FixPacks and if needed Interims Fixes (IFs) for the released versions. This is the first fixpack. The release notes have been already published but they are not final. There could be additional fixes that are not listed yet.

My two cents about HCL

By Daniel Nashed | 3/31/19 10:08 AM | Business - Social Business | Added by Oliver Busse

It has been a surprise for us that HCL is taking over Notes/Domino and most other collaboration products completely from IBM. The deal is not yet effective (hopefully beginning of June) and it should be "business as usual" until then. But we already see what we can expect from HCL taking over the complete portfolio including product strategy, sales and customer relationship.

Gelsenkirchen

Every trip I take there are moments of apprehension. I won’t call them fear; it’s not that strong a sentiment. I just say to myself “Well, I wonder how this will turn out.” And this trip had a few of them, the first of which happening at the Düsseldorf train station trying to get a ticket to my final destination in Gelsenkirchen.

Docker and Data

By Paul Withers | 3/30/19 4:13 PM | Infrastructure - Notes / Domino | Added by Oliver Busse

One of the frustrations I have with trying new technologies is when the documentation covers a specific operating system, especially when it combines another technology that requires a certain level of understanding. I had that recently with a new product where the Docker commands for creating a container were given, with no explanation about them.

OpenNTF GitHub Process Enhancements

By Paul Withers | 3/29/19 7:52 PM | App Dev - Open Source | Added by Oliver Busse

Since it was founded in 2008, GitHub has become a significant site for open source. It’s evolved over time with a lot of ancillary functionality, many areas of which I’ve not had much experience of. Most of my personal development, for conferences and non-ICS areas, goes through GitHub. It’s certainly the place I’ve used typically for conference sessions I’ve co-presented. And GitHub Pages was the place I chose for my personal blog a couple of years ago.

IBM Connections – How to change Personal Notification Preferences for all Users

By Milan Matejic | 3/29/19 5:54 AM | Infrastructure - Connections | Added by Roberto Boccadoro

You may find yourself in a situation where you need to change the personal IBM Connections E-Mail Notification Settings for all Users. IBM Connections Users have the following options to choose from: There is a set of Default Settings which is applied to every user, as soon as the TDI-Sync runs, and the user is created in a database. So, the first thing to do, is to change these default settings. The official documentation does a pretty good job explaining the possibilities you have here, like Locking the User Notification Preferences, and the steps needed to apply the changes, so I won´t go in greater detail on those here.

Quick Tip: Defrag the Notes Traveler Internal Database for Improved Performance

By John Oldenburger | 3/29/19 4:13 AM | Infrastructure - Notes / Domino | Added by Roberto Boccadoro

During the last period our Notes Traveler's internal database has increased considerably. Notes Traveler maintains state information about each device in a relational database. This information includes device information, device security and data that allows the IBM Traveler server to know if a device needs to sync. The database files are stored on the IBM Traveler system in the data\traveler\ntsdb directory. As all Administrators know an increased internal database can affect system performance. Administrators can defrag the database to compact and optimize its performance

Easy Kanban Silos in XPages

Recently, I came across this post on the #dominoforever ideas forum. My assumption when reading this is that the OP would like to have this capability in a web application since it’s in the XPages category. Having done something similar in a previous project, I had some code I could dust off to create a quick demo to show how easily functionality like this can be implemented now in XPages.

Quick Domino Tip: Clear the Password on a Server ID with a Minimum Password Length

By John Oldenburger | 3/26/19 10:35 AM | Infrastructure - Notes / Domino | Added by Roberto Boccadoro

We are currently transferring our current 32-bit Domino Server to a 64-bit Domino Server. The 64 bit Domino Server will eventually run on a Windows 2016 64 bit OS. With this 'move' we are well prepared for a possible upgrade to Domino 10 in the near future. Since we are going to perform a reinstall or move to a new server we need, among others, the server ID of the current Domino server. In my next blog post I will describe how to move a Domino server to a new server in detail. In this blog post a quick tip regarding clearing the password on a server ID with a minimum password length. I needed this to set up a Domino server to launch without prompting for the password so the server reboots after power failures and crashes. Below the simple steps to clear the password from a server ID.
