Engage 2019 Summary

By Paul Withers | 5/19/19 6:31 AM | - | Added by Oliver Busse

Historically Engage has been shortly after a major conference in US, so it’s been an opportunity to catch up on sessions missed there. This year it followed the Factory Tour by a few months. Unfortunately for me, most of the key products sessions conflicted with sessions I was delivering or preparation.

The hugely successful release of Domino 10 and the impending investment from HCL has got everyone excited about the future. But how well do you know the past? Take our fun Notes/Domino quiz and discover if you are a Collaboration Contender, a Domino Defender or a Notes Ninja!

Watson Workspace Obituary

By Paul Withers | 3/4/19 7:23 PM | - | Added by Oliver Busse

This week marks the passing of Watson Workspace, one of the few major innovations in the ICS space of the last decade. I say that because it was innovative not only in technology, but openness, open technologies adopted and showcased, design thinking approach, integration and most importantly user experience. It may be gone for good, but for me it did a lot of good.

HCL Factory Tour Episode 2

By Paul Withers | 3/1/19 4:17 PM | - | Added by Oliver Busse

This week I’ve spent a hugely beneficial amount of time at the HCL Factory Tour Episode 2. As with the previous factory tour, the ability to get quality time with key individuals from HCL and IBM, as well as not only hear but feed back on progress is invaluable. Before going I’d also intended to use the conference to crystalise my focuses for Engage. And obviously it was a great opportunity to have influential discussions regarding OpenNTF and open source, discussions that would normally have happened at IBM Think.

ICON UK Review and State of Domino Development Musings

By Paul Withers | 9/25/18 6:17 AM | - | Added by Oliver Busse

It’s a little over a week now since ICON UK and a couple of weeks until the Domino V10 launch, so it’s a good time for a review. ICON UK was a very busy time for me. This year as well as speaking and being involved with Intec as Platinum Sponsor, I was also Development track manager so helping out with the setup.

Engage Debrief

By Paul Withers | 5/24/18 4:20 PM | - | Added by Oliver Busse

The last few days at Engage have been very interesting and extremely useful. The event began on Monday for me, with Red Pill Now’s Take-5 Modernization workshop. The event was very well received, reinforcing my experiences from the face-to-face Domino Jam and since, namely that design thinking is a powerful and effective approach for engaging a diverse set of individuals to achieve better answers to more complex questions.

Big News for Domino, Connections and OpenNTF

By Paul Withers | 9/15/17 2:35 PM | - | Added by Oliver Busse

There are signs you can tell summer is over. For us in the northern hemisphere, the weather starts feeling chillier (although it’s been very changeable in UK most of the “summer”). And things start ramping up as people get back from holidays and Q3 comes to an end.

IBM Connect - Domino Application Development Review

By Paul Withers | 3/5/17 4:50 PM | - | Added by Oliver Busse

This time last year, the message about Domino application development was very straightforward. Domino 9.0.2 was slated for Q4 2016, with the expectation that this would include open sourcing of not only XPages Extension Library components, but all XPages components.

IBM Connect 2017

By Paul Withers | 2/13/17 12:56 PM | - | Added by Oliver Busse

With a little over a week to go, IBM Connect 2017 looks set to be as busy as ever. 2016 was a challenging year as a Domino developer, testing the faith and patience of many. My attendance at IBM Connect as a speaker, Business Partner and IBM Champion may seem “business as usual”, but it has not been a straightforward journey. So I hope the experience is as positive as last year but with a more positive rest of the year.

WWS Java SDK API 0.5.0 and GraphQL Visualisations

By Paul Withers | 1/19/17 1:53 AM | - | Added by Oliver Busse

As I’ve blogged before, over recent weeks I’ve been working with Christian Guedemann on a Java SDK for the Watson Work Services API. The documentation has been available since it was released at the end of October. There has also been a GraphiQL in-browser IDE for writing, validating and testing GraphQL queries against Watson Work Services, which is invaluable (note: you have be authenticated to Watson Workspace in the same browser for the queries to return any data).

Watson Work Services Java API Introduction

By Paul Withers | 11/25/16 6:36 AM | - | Added by Oliver Busse

For a few weeks now, Christian Guedemann and I have been working on a Java API to send requests to Watson Work Services to interact with a Watson Workspace. I blogged about the approach recently. I was determined to avoid Java developers having to write strings of JSON data to pass as queries to Watson Work Services.

Creating a Java API to Access Watson Work Services

By Paul Withers | 11/15/16 7:20 AM | - | Added by John Oldenburger

A few weeks ago, IBM announced Watson Workspace, the final name for Project Toscana, and its API Watson Work Services. The product itself has similarities to Slack or Microsoft Teams, but this post is not about discussing a comparison of the products. It’s about the API backing it.

Watson Workspace and Watson Work Services

By Paul Withers | 10/27/16 4:22 PM | - | Added by Oliver Busse

This week has brought the preview beta of Watson Workspace and Watson Work Services, what was previously called Toscana. These are very early days, without a doubt. Some are disappointed at the progress since the announcement at IBM Connect in February (seem screenshots can be seen here).

Paul Withers Blog: Background and Purpose

By Paul Withers | 7/12/16 4:12 PM | - | Added by Oliver Busse

For the last six years, I have blogged heavily (375 posts in 3 years and nine months, more than one post per week) on Intec’s blog. So the question naturally arises why I should choose to start a personal blog, and why now.

From XPages to Web App Part Fifteen: Key Dates Filterable View

By Paul Withers | 3/18/16 5:37 PM | - | Added by Oliver Busse

Finally, to complete the OSGi application, I will cover the Key Dates filterable view itself. This is a fairly complex page and will probably also make XPages developers appreciate more what XPages brings to the table out-of-the-box.

We Build The Tools and The Tools Build Us

By Paul Withers | 2/1/16 8:11 AM | - | Added by Oliver Busse

jason Silva spoke in the OGS at IBM Connect today about exponential growth and how the tools we have build have built us in return. That has certainly been the road for many of the Notes developers over the last five years. XPages was built and has built Notes developers into web developers.

OpenNTF Domino API Database Listeners

By Paul Withers | 6/22/15 10:59 AM | - | Added by Oliver Busse

Recently I was pointed in the direction of a blog post requesting hooks for opening / creating / saving etc of documents. With the next release of Notes (9.0.2??) due out later this year, I suspect the chances of a feature request getting in now is quite low.

What is Social Business?

By Paul Withers | 3/20/13 1:05 AM | - | Added by Niklas Heidloff

Intec defines Social Business as any organisation that embraces networks of people to create business value. By fully integrating the collective knowledge of people-centric networks, Social Businesses accelerate decision-making, strengthen business processes and increase innovation.
